Dwell hung from a street light, staring at nothing.
Dwell liked the night. Calm, quiet, tranquil. He could just close his eyes and appreciate the silence, or take in whatever noises nature decided to offer up.
"Dwell?"
Dwell opened his eyes and looked down at the street below. A younger man wearing plain white clothes was standing on the asphalt.
Dwell let his legs slide from the street light and dropped down next to the man, using his wings to slow his fall. He looked at the man.
"I bought a television, it's too heavy for me to bring into my home. Could you help?" the man asked.
Dwell nodded. He and the man started off towards the house.
Dwell set the television, still in its box, down. He figured the man would probably ask for help mounting it to the wall tomorrow, but he didn't mind being called upon twice.
"Thanks," the man muttered, looking at the television.
Dwell nodded. He turned around and began walking back towards the home's entrance.
The man followed, staying close behind Dwell as the two of them walked over the hardwood-floored hallway.
Dwell entered the foyer. He had left the door open behind him as he was taking the television inside.
"You don't talk much."
Dwell paused his walk towards the open entrance. "I could say the same about many High Drones. Most of us don't have much to talk about."
Something about this seemed to disappoint the man, who didn't say anything but sagged his shoulders somewhat. Noticing this, Dwell added, "It doesn't have anything to do with you. High Drones were built to take orders, we're creatures of efficiency. Isn't it understandable that some of us would turn out this way?"
The man nodded, though from his demeanor Dwell could tell he wasn't convinced. Regardless, Dwell had nothing more to say, so he stepped outside, and, closing the door behind him, flew up into the night.
