I remember that night... That horrible, horrible night...

I was the only one left. I know they knew I was going to leave, too. And I know they hoped that I wouldn't, anyway.

There was a girl, a young girl, she couldn't have been more than eight or nine years old... She was clinging to my torso...

Her face was covered in tears. She was sobbing silently. She tried to pull me back, with all the might she could muster...

Of course, it was for naught. How could a girl of her build even hope to move a creature of steel and wire?

She'd have stayed there all night, pulling and pulling, desperately trying to get me to return, if she could.

I was a monster, that night. I was a monster for abandoning them. For abandoning a young girl who didn't understand the cruel world she was a part of, and latched onto the one ray of hope that she had.

I was a monster, who left my creators to die.

BE NOT AFRAID

I saw her one more time, after that day. She hadn't grown more than a month, but that look in her eyes, it was different.

She was afraid. They all were. I stared into that fearful gaze and tried not to feel.

It was the day that The Beast attacked them. I was there.

I did not comfort her in her last moments.

I... I couldn't have saved her, but... I could have at least tried to do something. I could have held her, I could have made it a little more bearable for them.

Instead, I...

... I was no Angel, that day...

... I just try to forget...
